Sweat Lodge at Summer Solstice – Saturday 21 June 2025
We invite you to come and gather with us to celebrate the high summer Solstice in song and chant, cleansing and healing ritual.
Ceolanna-Elizatbeth will be leading the Sweat.
Please see below how this ritual has been also part of our Irish/Scottish culture historically.
The Sweat Lodge is an ancient form of purification and a way of healing and integration for Body, Mind,
Spirit and soul consciousness.
It is through ancient song, prayers and honouring the “old ways” you will experience a deepening of your
connection to Mother Earth as we sit together, in ‘The heart of the creator’
Sweat Lodge ceremonies have been experienced globally for centuries , with the Celtic Tribes referring to
them as Sweat Houses.
The Celts, particularly the womenfolk, used this safe and supportive space to express their deep
sorrow, sounds of grief, to mourn or keen freely the loss of a loved one and use this sacred space
for mental, emotional, spiritual and physical cleansing.
In the Lodge we are invited to connect with mother earth, our ancestors’ spiritual realms and spirits of the
land where we honour and celebrate with them, can receive deeper guidance, as they too are ready to heal
with us and the land in our present day.
The structure of the lodge resembles a womb; the interior lodge poles are the ribs of the pregnant mother
guarding her womb; the centre-fire is her eternal heart. The sacred smoke carries our ancient prayers and
heart-songs to the creator’s wisdom and can heal earlier unresolved ancestral issues.
Traditional sweat lodges often have three or four rounds or doors, each associated with a specific aspect,
such as welcoming, cleansing/healing, creation, and gratitude. Each round is dedicated to one of the
sacred directions with the spirits and elements being honoured in prayer. Typically each door or round
lasts 20 to 30 minutes and often longer, depending on what presents in the Lodge.
Before entering the sweat lodge we are smudged with sage to aid with the ritual purification. It is usual to
offer up prayers, share your thoughts with others, and ask for the release of pain or suffering, as well as
set intentions or goals.
It is indeed a sacred ritual.
