It was during my origional training as a general nurse and a midwife in the 80s that I became interested in alternative methods of pain relief for chronic and acute pain and also the pain of labour. I trained in the 90s in Reflexology, and Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal medicine, Reiki, and Chigong.
I have always been fascinated with the concept of energy, and how when it is in the wrong place within the human body, it may result in disharmony, and illness, on all connecting levels, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It was clear to me that use of only one system was too narrow, and there is indeed a need for healing to come from many sources not excluding from the most important source which is from within. I offer an integrated and intuitive form of healing, using various systems, depending upon the needs of the individual.
Whilst doing my acupuncture internship in one of the Nanjing University Hospitals, I witnessed how eastern medicine is so honoured and used collaboratively alongside western medicine, within the hospital and general health care system in China and the far east. Also the use of Chigong energy healing is vastly used within the Oriental medical system, alongside the encouragement of daily Taichi practice for individual wellbeing.
Over the course of the last decade, I have done post graduate training in various systems of acupuncture including with Jeffrey Yuan. He teaches Classical Acupuncture, herbal medicine systems and Chigong, all of which encompass the original teachings of the Oriental Medicine system which embraces the psychological, spiritual, esoteric and shamanic elements.
I also trained and continue to train in teaching Taichi and various Chigong forms, both which I have offered over the last 20 years in classes and workshops.
Always with a deep sense of enquiry into the nature of mind and spirit, and into the origen of trauma, this led me to study transpersonal psychology which theory supports the idea of how the mind and physical body are totally inseparable, and what happens to us before and after birth and whilst in the womb, and during the birth process itself can have a lasting impact upon our lives. Having undergone several years of personal growth, meditative and holotropic breathwork retreats, I then took part in the Grof Transpersonal Training with trainers and lecturers such as psychiatrist Dr Stanaslov Grof and Tav Sparks, along with several other teachers, in Holotropic Breath-work. I certified in 2012 as a facilitator and since 2007, have been offering personal growth workshops and holotropic breath-work workshops.
In 2021, I joined the team of teachers and facilitators in setting up the 3 year training program for Grof Legacy training (www.gltnordic.org) and it was my honour to have helped continue a training, which is Dr.Stan Grof’s last legacy. I run retreats in Grof® breathwork alongside Claire Matthews, and also with other facilitators in Ireland and Romania.
Also knowing that there is no separation between us and nature, I spent over 15 years working in close communion with and in deep exploration of various shamanic traditions.
I undertook training in Celtic Shamanism with Caitlin and John Matthews, both renowned writers and teachers in Celtic mythology, and shamanism. I am able to offer shamanic healing from this tradition. I now am teaching alongside Margot Harrison, “Foundation in Walkers between the Worlds”, Shamanic training, at Danu Lodge.
Using all my skills, I am able to work intuitively and assist each person to access their own inner healing wisdom as they sit with me.
The idea of collaborative and complementary medicine has been my passion and I have created and managed over the past 25 years various holistic multidisciplinary healing centres, including Fairgreen Holistic Clinic in Naas, Co Kildare, and Goldenspears healing Centre, in Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow.
I have been working in womens health for more than 35 years and offer assistance for those who are on their journeys towards pregnancy, and offer acupuncture and herbalism, alongside reflexology at Acorn Acupuncture clinics at Danu lodge, Co Wexford, and in Kilcoole, Co Wicklow. www.acorn-acupuncture.net
In 2014 I created an acupuncture department within one of the Fertility IVF Clinics in Dublin, Sims IVF Clinic in Dublin continues to be the only centre in Ireland that openly honours the use of acupuncture alongside their western medical protocols of treatment. (www.sims.ie) I continue to work in close association with Sims IVF Clinic and also with other fertility centres in Ireland. Whilst also assisting folk on a more natural fertility journey.
In March 2020 I created Danu Lodge with the idea to provide retreat and healing for those who are needing rest, sanctuary and peace. At Danu Lodge it is my honour, along with several others, to offer guidance and counsel to those going through major life changes and who are on the path of self discovery, and deep transformation at this time of great change for humanity.
